The Triumphal Entry(A)

21 Now (B)when they drew near Jerusalem, and came to [a]Bethphage, at (C)the Mount of Olives, then Jesus sent two disciples, 2 saying to them, “Go into the village opposite you, and immediately you will find a donkey tied, and a colt with her. Loose them and bring them to Me. 3 And if anyone says anything to you, you shall say, ‘The Lord has need of them,’ and immediately he will send them.”

4 [b]All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying:

5 “Tell(D) the daughter of Zion,

‘Behold, your King is coming to you,

Lowly, and sitting on a donkey,

A colt, the foal of a donkey.’ ”

6 (E)So the disciples went and did as Jesus commanded them. 7 They brought the donkey and the colt, (F)laid their clothes on them, [c]and set Him on them. 8 And a very great multitude spread their clothes on the road; (G)others cut down branches from the trees and spread them on the road. 9 Then the multitudes who went before and those who followed cried out, saying:

“Hosanna to the Son of David!

(H)‘Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!’

Hosanna in the highest!”

10 (I)And when He had come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, “Who is this?”

11 So the multitudes said, “This is Jesus, (J)the prophet from Nazareth of Galilee.”

Jesus Cleanses the Temple(K)

12 (L)Then Jesus went into the temple [d]of God and drove out all those who bought and sold in the temple, and overturned the tables of the (M)money changers and the seats of those who sold doves. 13 And He said to them, “It is written, (N)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a (O)‘den of thieves.’ ”

14 Then the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple, and He healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying out in the temple and saying, “Hosanna to the (P)Son of David!” they were [e]indignant 16 and said to Him, “Do You hear what these are saying?”

And Jesus said to them, “Yes. Have you never read,

(Q)‘Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants

You have perfected praise’?”

17 Then He left them and (R)went out of the city to Bethany, and He lodged there.

The Fig Tree Withered(S)

18 (T)Now in the morning, as He returned to the city, He was hungry. 19 (U)And seeing a fig tree by the road, He came to it and found nothing on it but leaves, and said to it, “Let no fruit grow on you ever again.” Immediately the fig tree withered away.

The Lesson of the Withered Fig Tree(V)

20 (W)And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither away so soon?”

21 So Jesus answered and said to them, “Assuredly, I say to you, (X)if you have faith and (Y)do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, (Z)but also if you say to this mountain, ‘Be removed and be cast into the sea,’ it will be done. 22 And (AA)whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.”

Jesus’ Authority Questioned(AB)

23 (AC)Now when He came into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people confronted Him as He was teaching, and (AD)said, “By what authority are You doing these things? And who gave You this authority?”

24 But Jesus answered and said to them, “I also will ask you one thing, which if you tell Me, I likewise will tell you by what authority I do these things: 25 The (AE)baptism of (AF)John—where was it from? From heaven or from men?”

And they reasoned among themselves, saying, “If we say, ‘From heaven,’ He will say to us, ‘Why then did you not believe him?’ 26 But if we say, ‘From men,’ we (AG)fear the multitude, (AH)for all count John as a prophet.” 27 So they answered Jesus and said, “We do not know.”

And He said to them, “Neither will I tell you by what authority I do these things.

The Parable of the Two Sons

28 “But what do you think? A man had two sons, and he came to the first and said, ‘Son, go, work today in my (AI)vineyard.’ 29 He answered and said, ‘I will not,’ but afterward he regretted it and went. 30 Then he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, ‘I go, sir,’ but he did not go. 31 Which of the two did the will of his father?”

They said to Him, “The first.”

Jesus said to them, (AJ)“Assuredly, I say to you that tax collectors and harlots enter the kingdom of God before you. 32 For (AK)John came to you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him; (AL)but tax collectors and harlots believed him; and when you saw it, you did not afterward [f]relent and believe him.

The Parable of the Wicked Vinedressers(AM)

33 “Hear another parable: There was a certain landowner (AN)who planted a vineyard and set a hedge around it, dug a winepress in it and built a tower. And he leased it to vinedressers and (AO)went into a far country. 34 Now when vintage-time drew near, he sent his servants to the vinedressers, that they might receive its fruit. 35 (AP)And the vinedressers took his servants, beat one, killed one, and stoned another. 36 Again he sent other servants, more than the first, and they did likewise to them. 37 Then last of all he sent his (AQ)son to them, saying, ‘They will respect my son.’ 38 But when the vinedressers saw the son, they said among themselves, (AR)‘This is the heir. (AS)Come, let us kill him and seize his inheritance.’ 39 (AT)So they took him and cast him out of the vineyard and killed him.

40 “Therefore, when the owner of the vineyard comes, what will he do to those vinedressers?”

41 (AU)They said to Him, (AV)“He will destroy those wicked men miserably, (AW)and lease his vineyard to other vinedressers who will [g]render to him the fruits in their seasons.”

42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures:

(AX)‘The stone which the builders rejected

Has become the chief cornerstone.

This was the Lord’s doing,

And it is marvelous in our eyes’?

43 “Therefore I say to you, (AY)the kingdom of God will be taken from you and given to a nation bearing the fruits of it. 44 And (AZ)whoever falls on this stone will be broken; but on whomever it falls, (BA)it will grind him to powder.”

45 Now when the chief priests and Pharisees heard His parables, they [h]perceived that He was speaking of them. 46 But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they (BB)feared the multitudes, because (BC)they took Him for a prophet.

La entrada triunfal en Jerusalén

21 Cuando se acercaron a Jerusalén y llegaron a Betfagé, junto al monte de los Olivos, Jesús envió a dos discípulos, 2 diciéndoles:

—Vayan a la aldea que está frente a ustedes, y en seguida hallarán una asna atada, y un borriquillo con ella. Desátenla y tráiganmelos. 3 Si alguien les dice algo, díganle: “El Señor los necesita, y luego los enviará”.

4 Todo esto aconteció para cumplir lo dicho por el profeta, cuando dijo:

5 Digan a la hija de Sion[a]:

“He aquí tu Rey viene a ti,

manso y sentado sobre una asna

y sobre un borriquillo,

hijo de bestia de carga”[b].

6 Los discípulos fueron e hicieron como Jesús les mandó. 7 Trajeron el asna y el borriquillo y pusieron sobre ellos sus mantos, y se sentó encima de ellos. 8 La mayor parte de la multitud tendió sus mantos en el camino, mientras otros cortaban ramas de los árboles y las tendían por el camino. 9 Las multitudes que iban delante de él y las que lo seguían aclamaban diciendo:

—¡Hosanna al Hijo de David! ¡Bendito el que viene en el nombre del Señor![c]. ¡Hosanna en las alturas!

10 Cuando él entró en Jerusalén, toda la ciudad se conmovió diciendo:

—¿Quién es este?

11 Y las multitudes decían:

—Este es Jesús el profeta, de Nazaret de Galilea.

Jesús purifica el templo

12 Entró Jesús en el templo y echó fuera a todos los que vendían y compraban en el templo. Volcó las mesas de los cambistas y las sillas de los que vendían palomas, 13 y les dijo:

—Escrito está: Mi casa será llamada casa de oración[d], pero ustedes la han hecho cueva de ladrones[e].

Los niños aclaman a Jesús

14 Entonces ciegos y cojos vinieron a él en el templo, y él los sanó. 15 Pero los principales sacerdotes y los escribas se indignaron cuando vieron las maravillas que él hizo, y a los muchachos que lo aclamaban en el templo diciendo:

—¡Hosanna al Hijo de David!

16 Y le dijeron:

—¿Oyes lo que dicen estos?

Jesús les dijo:

—Sí. ¿Nunca leyeron: De la boca de los niños y de los que maman preparaste la alabanza[f]?

17 Los dejó y salió fuera de la ciudad a Betania, y se alojó allí.

Jesús y la higuera sin fruto

18 Volviendo a la ciudad por la mañana, tuvo hambre. 19 Al ver una higuera en el camino, fue a ella; pero no encontró nada en ella sino solo hojas, y le dijo:

—Nunca jamás brote fruto de ti.

Pronto se secó la higuera, 20 y los discípulos, al verlo, se maravillaron diciendo:

—¿Cómo se secó tan pronto la higuera?

21 Jesús respondió y les dijo:

—De cierto les digo que si tienen fe y no dudan, no solo harán esto de la higuera, sino que si dicen a este monte: “Quítate y arrójate al mar”, así será. 22 Todo lo que pidan en oración, creyendo, lo recibirán.

La autoridad de Jesús

23 Él llegó al templo y, mientras estaba enseñando, se acercaron a él los principales sacerdotes y los ancianos del pueblo, y le decían:

—¿Con qué autoridad haces estas cosas? ¿Quién te dio esta autoridad?

24 Entonces respondió Jesús y les dijo:

—Yo también les haré una pregunta y, si me responden, yo también les diré con qué autoridad hago estas cosas. 25 ¿De dónde era el bautismo de Juan? ¿Del cielo o de los hombres?

Entonces ellos razonaban entre sí, diciendo:

—Si decimos “del cielo”, nos dirá: “¿Por qué, pues, no le creyeron?”. 26 Y si decimos “de los hombres…”, tememos al pueblo, porque todos tienen a Juan por profeta.

27 Respondieron a Jesús y dijeron:

—No sabemos.

Y él les dijo:

—Tampoco yo les digo con qué autoridad hago estas cosas.

Parábola de los dos hijos

28 »Pero, ¿qué les parece? Un hombre tenía dos hijos. Se acercó al primero y le dijo: “Hijo, ve hoy a trabajar en la viña”. 29 Él contestó y dijo: “No quiero”. Pero después cambió de parecer y fue. 30 Al acercarse al otro, le dijo lo mismo; y él respondió diciendo: “¡Sí, señor, yo voy!”. Y no fue. 31 ¿Cuál de los dos hizo la voluntad de su padre?

Ellos dijeron:

—El primero.

Y Jesús les dijo:

—De cierto les digo que los publicanos y las prostitutas entran delante de ustedes en el reino de Dios. 32 Porque Juan vino a ustedes en el camino de justicia, y no le creyeron; pero los publicanos y las prostitutas le creyeron. Y aunque ustedes lo vieron, después no cambiaron de parecer para creerle.

Parábola de los labradores malvados

33 »Oigan otra parábola: Había un hombre, dueño de un campo, quien plantó una viña. La rodeó con una cerca, cavó en ella un lagar, edificó una torre, la arrendó a unos labradores y se fue lejos. 34 Pero cuando se acercó el tiempo de la cosecha, envió sus siervos a los labradores para recibir sus frutos. 35 Y los labradores, tomando a sus siervos, a uno lo hirieron, a otro lo mataron y a otro lo apedrearon. 36 Él envió de nuevo otros siervos, en mayor número que los primeros, y les hicieron lo mismo.

37 »Por último, les envió a su hijo, diciendo: “Tendrán respeto a mi hijo”. 38 Pero al ver al hijo, los labradores dijeron entre sí: “Este es el heredero. Vengan, matémoslo y tomemos posesión de su herencia”. 39 Lo prendieron, lo echaron fuera de la viña y lo mataron. 40 Ahora bien, cuando venga el señor de la viña, ¿qué hará con aquellos labradores?

41 Le dijeron:

—A los malvados los destruirá sin misericordia, y arrendará su viña a otros labradores, quienes le pagarán el fruto a su tiempo.

42 Jesús les dijo:

—¿Nunca han leído en las Escrituras?

La piedra que desecharon los edificadores,

esta fue hecha cabeza del ángulo.

De parte del Señor sucedió esto,

y es maravilloso en nuestros ojos[g].

43 Por esta razón les digo que el reino de Dios les será quitado de ustedes y le será dado a un pueblo que producirá los frutos del reino. 44 El que caiga sobre esta piedra será quebrantado, y desmenuzará a cualquiera sobre quien ella caiga.

45 Al oír sus parábolas, los principales sacerdotes y los fariseos entendieron que él hablaba de ellos. 46 Pero buscando cómo echarle mano, temieron al pueblo; porque le tenía por profeta.
