Wine Is a Mocker
20 Wine (A)is a mocker,Strong drink is a brawler,And whoever is led astray by it is not wise.
2 The [a]wrath of a king is like the roaring of a lion;Whoever provokes him to anger sins against his own life.
3 (B)It is honorable for a man to stop striving,Since any fool can start a quarrel.
5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water,But a man of understanding will draw it out.
6 Most men will proclaim each his own [b]goodness,But who can find a faithful man?
8 A king who sits on the throne of judgmentScatters all evil with his eyes.
9 (G)Who can say, “I have made my heart clean,I am pure from my sin”?
10 (H)Diverse weights and diverse measures,They are both alike, an abomination to the Lord.
11 Even a child is (I)known by his deeds,Whether what he does is pure and right.
12 (J)The hearing ear and the seeing eye,The Lord has made them both.
13 (K)Do not love sleep, lest you come to poverty;Open your eyes, and you will be satisfied with bread.
14 “It is [c]good for nothing,” cries the buyer;But when he has gone his way, then he boasts.
15 There is gold and a multitude of rubies,But (L)the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.
16 (M)Take the garment of one who is surety for a stranger,And hold it as a pledge when it is for a seductress.
17 (N)Bread gained by deceit is sweet to a man,But afterward his mouth will be filled with gravel.
19 (Q)He who goes about as a talebearer reveals secrets;Therefore do not associate with one (R)who flatters with his lips.
23 Diverse weights are an abomination to the Lord,And dishonest scales are not good.
24 A man’s steps are of the Lord;How then can a man understand his own way?
25 It is a snare for a man to devote rashly something as holy,And afterward to reconsider his vows.
26 (Y)A wise king sifts out the wicked,And brings the threshing wheel over them.
29 The glory of young men is their strength,And (AB)the splendor of old men is their gray head.
30 Blows that hurt cleanse away evil,As do stripes the [g]inner depths of the heart.

20 El vino hace burla; el licor alborota. Y cualquiera que se descarría no es sabio.
2 Como rugido de león es la indignación del rey;el que lo enfurece peca contra sí mismo.3 Al hombre le es honroso apartarsede la contienda,pero todo insensato se envolveráen ella.4 El perezoso no ara al comienzode la estación;buscará en el tiempo de la siegay no hallará.5 Como aguas profundas es el propósito en el corazón del hombre,pero el hombre de entendimientologrará extraerlo.6 Muchos hombres proclaman su propia bondad;pero un hombre fiel, ¿quién lo hallará?7 El justo camina en su integridad; bienaventurados serán sus hijos después de él.8 El rey se sienta en el trono del juicio; con su mirada disipa todo mal.9 ¿Quién podrá decir: “Yo he limpiado mi corazón;limpio estoy de mi pecado”?10 Pesas falsas y medidas falsas[a]: Ambas cosas son una abominaciónal SEÑOR.11 Aun el muchacho es conocido por sus hechossi su conducta es pura y recta.12 El oído que oye y el ojo que ve, ambas cosas ha hecho el SEÑOR.13 No ames el sueño para que note empobrezcas;abre tus ojos y te saciarás de pan.14 El que compra dice:“Malo es, malo es”;pero apartándose se jactade lo comprado.15 Existen el oro y una gran cantidadde perlas,pero los labios que saben son algo más precioso.16 Quítale su ropa al que salió fiador del extraño,y tómale prenda al que se fía dela mujer ajena[b].17 Sabroso es al hombre el panmal adquirido;pero cuando haya llenado su boca se convertirá en cascajo.18 Confirma los planes medianteel consejoy haz la guerra con estrategia.19 El que anda con chismesrevela el secreto;no te metas con el suelto de lengua.20 Al que maldice a su padreo a su madre,su lámpara se le apagará en medio de las tinieblas.21 Los bienes adquiridos apresuradamente al comienzoal fin de cuentas no serán bendecidos.22 No digas: “Devolveré el mal”. Espera al SEÑOR y él te salvará.23 Las pesas falsas[c] son una abominación al SEÑOR;y la balanza de engaño no es algo bueno.24 Del SEÑOR son los pasos del hombre; ¿cómo podrá el hombre, por sí solo, entender su camino?25 Es una trampa para el hombre declarar a la ligera algo como consagrado,y reflexionar solo después de haber hecho los votos.26 El rey sabio dispersa a los impíos,y sobre ellos hace rodar la rueda.27 Lámpara del SEÑOR es el espíritu del hombre,la cual escudriña lo más recóndito del ser.28 La misericordia y la verdad guardanal rey,y con justicia[d] sustenta su trono.29 La gloria de los jóvenes es su fuerza;y el esplendor de los ancianos, sus canas.30 Las marcas de los azotes purifican del mal,y los golpes purifican al corazón.
