Free from Indwelling Sin

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who[a] do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. 3 For what the law could not do in that it was weak through the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, on account of sin: He condemned sin in the flesh, 4 that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. 5 For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be [b]carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the [c]carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.

9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His. 10 And if Christ is in you, the body is dead because of sin, but the Spirit is life because of righteousness. 11 But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies [d]through His Spirit who dwells in you.

Sonship Through the Spirit

12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors—not to the flesh, to live according to the flesh. 13 For if you live according to the flesh you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live. 14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God. 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba,[e] Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, 17 and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together.

From Suffering to Glory

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us. 19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God. 20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope; 21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of [f]corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God. 22 For we know that the whole creation groans and labors with birth pangs together until now. 23 Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. 24 For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? 25 But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.

26 Likewise the Spirit also helps in our weaknesses. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself makes intercession [g]for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. 27 Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God.

28 And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose. 29 For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

God’s Everlasting Love

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things? 33 Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. 34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:

“For Your sake we are killed all day long;We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”

37 Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Victoriosos en el Espíritu

8 Ahora pues, ninguna condenación hay para los que están en Cristo Jesús[a], 2 porque la ley del Espíritu de vida en Cristo Jesús me ha librado de la ley del pecado y de la muerte. 3 Porque Dios hizo lo que era imposible para la ley, por cuanto ella era débil por la carne: Habiendo enviado a su propio Hijo en semejanza de carne de pecado y a causa del pecado, condenó al pecado en la carne 4 para que la justa exigencia de la ley fuese cumplida en nosotros que no andamos conforme a la carne sino conforme al Espíritu. 5 Porque los que viven conforme a la carne piensan en las cosas de la carne; pero los que viven conforme al Espíritu, en las cosas del Espíritu. 6 Porque la intención de la carne es muerte, pero la intención del Espíritu es vida y paz. 7 Pues la intención de la carne es enemistad contra Dios; porque no se sujeta a la ley de Dios ni tampoco puede. 8 Así que los que viven según la carne no pueden agradar a Dios.

9 Sin embargo, ustedes no viven según la carne sino según el Espíritu, si es que el Espíritu de Dios mora en ustedes. Si alguno no tiene el Espíritu de Cristo, no es de él. 10 Pero si Cristo está en ustedes, aunque el cuerpo esté muerto a causa del pecado, no obstante el espíritu vive a causa de la justicia. 11 Y si el Espíritu de aquel que resucitó a Jesús de entre los muertos mora en ustedes, el que resucitó a Cristo de entre los muertos también les dará vida a sus cuerpos mortales mediante su Espíritu que mora en ustedes.

12 Así que, hermanos, somos deudores, pero no a la carne para que vivamos conforme a la carne. 13 Porque si viven conforme a la carne, han de morir; pero si por el Espíritu hacen morir las prácticas de la carne, vivirán. 14 Porque todos los que son guiados por el Espíritu de Dios, estos son hijos de Dios. 15 Pues no recibieron el espíritu de esclavitud para estar otra vez bajo el temor sino que recibieron el espíritu de adopción como hijos, en el cual clamamos: “¡Abba, Padre!”. 16 El Espíritu mismo da testimonio juntamente con nuestro espíritu de que somos hijos de Dios. 17 Y si somos hijos, también somos herederos: herederos de Dios y coherederos con Cristo, si es que padecemos juntamente con él, para que juntamente con él seamos glorificados.

La gloria venidera

18 Porque considero que los padecimientos del tiempo presente no son dignos de comparar con la gloria que pronto nos ha de ser revelada. 19 Pues la creación aguarda con ardiente anhelo la manifestación de los hijos de Dios. 20 Porque la creación ha sido sujetada a la vanidad, no por su propia voluntad sino por causa de aquel que la sujetó, en esperanza 21 de que aun la creación misma será librada de la esclavitud de la corrupción para entrar a la libertad gloriosa de los hijos de Dios. 22 Porque sabemos que toda la creación gime a una, y a una sufre dolores de parto hasta ahora. 23 Y no solo la creación sino también nosotros, que tenemos las primicias del Espíritu, gemimos dentro de nosotros mismos aguardando la adopción como hijos, la redención de nuestro cuerpo. 24 Porque fuimos salvos con esperanza; pero una esperanza que se ve no es esperanza, pues ¿quién sigue esperando lo que ya ve?[b]. 25 Pero si esperamos lo que no vemos, con perseverancia lo aguardamos.

26 Y asimismo, también el Espíritu nos ayuda en nuestras debilidades; porque no sabemos cómo debiéramos orar pero el Espíritu mismo intercede con gemidos indecibles. 27 Y el que escudriña los corazones sabe cuál es la intención del Espíritu, porque él intercede por los santos conforme a la voluntad de Dios.

28 Y sabemos que Dios hace que todas las cosas ayuden para bien a los que lo aman; esto es, a los que son llamados conforme a su propósito. 29 Sabemos que a los que antes conoció, también los predestinó para que fuesen hechos conformes a la imagen de su Hijo a fin de que él sea el primogénito entre muchos hermanos. 30 Y a los que predestinó, a estos también llamó; y a los que llamó, a estos también justificó; y a los que justificó, a estos también glorificó.

El amor de Dios en Cristo Jesús

31 ¿Qué, pues, diremos frente a estas cosas? Si Dios es por nosotros, ¿quién contra nosotros? 32 El que no eximió ni a su propio Hijo sino que lo entregó por todos nosotros, ¿cómo no nos dará gratuitamente también con él todas las cosas? 33 ¿Quién acusará a los escogidos de Dios? El que justifica es Dios. 34 ¿Quién es el que condenará? Cristo es el que murió; más aún, es el que también resucitó; quien, además, está a la diestra de Dios, y quien también intercede por nosotros.

35 ¿Quién nos separará del amor de Cristo? ¿Tribulación, o angustia, o persecución, o hambre, o desnudez, o peligros, o espada? 36 Como está escrito: Por tu causa somos muertos todo el tiempo; fuimos estimados como ovejas para el matadero[c]. 37 Más bien, en todas estas cosas somos más que vencedores por medio de aquel que nos amó. 38 Por lo cual estoy convencido de que ni la muerte ni la vida ni ángeles ni principados ni lo presente ni lo porvenir ni poderes 39 ni lo alto ni lo profundo ni ninguna otra cosa creada nos podrá separar del amor de Dios, que es en Cristo Jesús, Señor nuestro.
