Good Morning 6-1-24
Genesis 22:6-17
6 Abraham placed the wood for the burnt offering on Isaac’s shoulders, while he himself carried the knife and the fire. As the two of them went on together, 7 Isaac said, Father? Yes, my son, Abraham replied. We have the wood and the fire, said the boy, but where is the lamb for the sacrifice? 8 God will provide a lamb, my son, Abraham answered. And they both went on together. 9 When they arrived at the place where God had told Abraham to go, he built an altar and placed the wood on it. Then he tied Isaac up and laid him on the altar over the wood. 10 And Abraham took the knife and lifted it up to kill his son as a sacrifice to the Lord. 11 At that moment the angel of the Lord shouted to him from heaven, Abraham! Abraham! Yes, he answered. I’m listening. 12 Lay down the knife, the angel said. Do not hurt the boy in any way, for now I know that you truly fear God. You have not withheld even your beloved son from me. 13 Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a bush. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering on the altar in place of his son. 14 Abraham named the place The Lord Will Provide. This name has now become a proverb: On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided. 15 Then the angel of the Lord called again to Abraham from heaven, 16 This is what the Lord says: Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your beloved son, I swear by my own self that 17 I will bless you richly. I will multiply your descendants into countless millions, like the stars of the sky and the sand on the seashore. They will conquer their enemies, 18 and through your descendants, all the Nations of the earth will be blessed all because you have obeyed me.

God knew the plan for redemption even before it was needed. In this scripture, God is laying out the plan for Abraham. He is asked to sacrifice his son, his only son. This is the long awaited child of promise. God had promised Abraham to multiple his seed like the stars in the sky, but God wanted his complete obedience and asked Abraham to show his faith. In doing so, God showed all of us how He would redeem the world through the seed of this man. God gave His Son, His only Son for our sins. The plan is clear; God will provide the sacrifice needed to make us right with Him. Jehovah-jireh, means God will provide. Because of our sin, we could not do it ourselves but God provided. This promise was not just for the children of Abraham but for the entire world. All of the nations would be blessed through the obedience of Abraham. Jesus Christ came through the Jews but He came to redeem all of mankind, no matter what nationality or race. Everyone can receive grace by believing God, just as Abraham did over 6000 years ago.

John 6:32-40
32 Jesus said, “I assure you, Moses didn’t give them bread from heaven. My Father did. And now he offers you the true bread from heaven. 33 The true bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world.” 34 “Sir,” they said, “give us that bread every day of our lives.” 35 Jesus replied, “I am the bread of life. No one who comes to me will ever be hungry again. Those who believe in me will never thirst. 36 But you haven’t believed in me even though you have seen me. 37 However, those the Father has given me will come to me, and I will never reject them. 38 For I have come down from heaven to do the will of God who sent me, not to do what I want. 39 And this is the will of God, that I should not lose even one of all those he has given me, but that I should raise them to eternal life at the last day. 40 For it is my Father’s will that all who see his Son and believe in him should have eternal life-that I should raise them at the last day.”

Jesus told us that He was the Bread of Life; He also told us that He was Living Water. Whoever eats of this Bread and drinks of this Water will never be hungry or thirsty again. Because He had just filled their stomachs with food, the crowd wanted Him to provide them with daily food just like God had done in the wilderness. But God is not as concerned with filling our stomachs as He is with filling our hearts. Repeatedly, the Bible instructs us not to worry about what we will eat or drink, but to put God first in our lives. He tells us that He will provide what our bodies need to live, but that we must want and pursue what will make our soul live. He will take care of the perishable and we are to focus on the eternal. Making Christ first, takes all of the emphasis off of us and puts us into the Kingdom of God. When we walk in the Kingdom, we walk with Christ and He leads us where He wants us to go. If you have not been focusing on the Bread of Life, you are slowly starving to death. Feed your spiritual life daily by turning your focus to Jesus. Put Him first in everything you do and you will walk in the Kingdom of God.
