Philippians 3:12-15
12 I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection! But I keep working toward that day when I will finally be all that Christ Jesus saved me for and wants me to be. 13 No, dear brothers and sisters, I am still not all I should be, but I am focusing all my energies on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, 14 I strain to reach the end of the race and receive the prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us up to heaven. 15 I hope all of you who are mature Christians will agree on these things. If you disagree on some point, I believe God will make it plain to you. 16 But we must be sure to obey the truth we have learned already.

Paul was a person who walked closely with God. His intent was to keep growing, learning, and serving Christ. But Paul was never satisfied that he had attained all of the fullness of Christ. This side of heaven, no one can. But God does not ask for perfect people, He seeks people who will listen and obey. God is looking for people who will pick themselves up and get on with the business of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. We can’t change our past but we don’t need to let it keep us down. What events in your past are keeping you from all that you can be in Christ Jesus? If you are dragging the past with you, it will be difficult to mature in Christ. Paul continued to focus all his energies on this one thing: forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead. As Christians, we need to do the same. Whatever it is, don’t allow it to affect your today. You cannot drive a car forward while looking in the rear view mirror any more than you can go forward for Christ while living in the pain of the past. Remember, you are a new creation in Christ Jesus; all things have been made new. Let the Spirit of God renew your mind. It is in your thinking that the enemy defeats you. When you are reminded of past pain, that is a whisper in your mind planted by Satan to keep you bound in that pain. Remember that you belong to the Holy Almighty Living God and that you now have the mind of Christ. Think His thoughts! And speak the Word from Proverbs 3:5, 6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek His will in all you do, and He will direct your paths.” Be sure to obey the truth you have already learned and do not let the enemy keep you bound by past pain. Get over it!
