Good Morning Devotional with Dr Diana Brevan 5-18-2024

Psalm 119:49-56
49 Remember your promise to me, for it is my only hope.
50 Your promise revives me; it comforts me in all my troubles.
51 The proud hold me in utter contempt, but I do not turn away from your law.
52 I meditate on your age-old laws; O LORD, they comfort me.
53 I am furious with the wicked, those who reject your law.
54 Your principles have been the music of my life throughout the years of my pilgrimage.
55 I reflect at night on who you are, O LORD, and I obey your law because of this.
56 This is my happy way of life: obeying your commandments.

Freedom, it is a word American’s have fought and died for. But today the world views freedom as being able to do whatever we want, whenever we want without restrictions. But is this really freedom? Whenever we give into our passions and do our will, we then become slaves to that desire. As the young people discovered with “free love” in the sixties. When the restraints of sexual purity were removed, teen pregnancy increased, and sexually transmitted diseases rapidly increased. New diseases we had never heard of came into play. Now “free love” can mean not only spiritual death but also physical. In the pursuit of happiness, we have equated freedom with it. But to be truly free, means to live in obedience. Titus 2:14 tell us, “He gave his life to free us from every kind of sin, to cleanse us, and to make us his very own people, totally committed to doing what is right.” It is a life lived by doing what is right in the eyes of Christ. True freedom, means to be released from our sinful desires. God knew that our happiness would be found in Him and obeying His commandments. When we reflect on the Word of God and live within His guidelines, we find happiness and peace. As we surrender our sinful desires and live within the Word of God, we find contentment and joy.
