Ezekiel 13-14

13 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

2 Son of man, prophesy against the prophets of Israel that prophesy, and say thou unto them that prophesy out of their own hearts, Hear ye the word of the Lord;

3 Thus saith the Lord God; Woe unto the foolish prophets, that follow their own spirit, and have seen nothing!

4 O Israel, thy prophets are like the foxes in the deserts.

5 Ye have not gone up into the gaps, neither made up the hedge for the house of Israel to stand in the battle in the day of the Lord.

6 They have seen vanity and lying divination, saying, The Lord saith: and the Lord hath not sent them: and they have made others to hope that they would confirm the word.

7 Have ye not seen a vain vision, and have ye not spoken a lying divination, whereas ye say, The Lord saith it; albeit I have not spoken?

8 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Because ye have spoken vanity, and seen lies, therefore, behold, I am against you, saith the Lord God.

9 And mine hand shall be upon the prophets that see vanity, and that divine lies: they shall not be in the assembly of my people, neither shall they be written in the writing of the house of Israel, neither shall they enter into the land of Israel; and ye shall know that I am the Lord God.

10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and, lo, others daubed it with untempered morter:

11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered morter, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.

12 Lo, when the wall is fallen, shall it not be said unto you, Where is the daubing wherewith ye have daubed it?

13 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; I will even rend it with a stormy wind in my fury; and there shall be an overflowing shower in mine anger, and great hailstones in my fury to consume it.

14 So will I break down the wall that ye have daubed with untempered morter, and bring it down to the ground, so that the foundation thereof shall be discovered, and it shall fall, and ye shall be consumed in the midst thereof: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

15 Thus will I accomplish my wrath upon the wall, and upon them that have daubed it with untempered morter, and will say unto you, The wall is no more, neither they that daubed it;

16 To wit, the prophets of Israel which prophesy concerning Jerusalem, and which see visions of peace for her, and there is no peace, saith the Lord God.

17 Likewise, thou son of man, set thy face against the daughters of thy people, which prophesy out of their own heart; and prophesy thou against them,

18 And say, Thus saith the Lord God; Woe to the women that sew pillows to all armholes, and make kerchiefs upon the head of every stature to hunt souls! Will ye hunt the souls of my people, and will ye save the souls alive that come unto you?

19 And will ye pollute me among my people for handfuls of barley and for pieces of bread, to slay the souls that should not die, and to save the souls alive that should not live, by your lying to my people that hear your lies?

20 Wherefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, I am against your pillows, wherewith ye there hunt the souls to make them fly, and I will tear them from your arms, and will let the souls go, even the souls that ye hunt to make them fly.

21 Your kerchiefs also will I tear, and deliver my people out of your hand, and they shall be no more in your hand to be hunted; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

22 Because with lies ye have made the heart of the righteous sad, whom I have not made sad; and strengthened the hands of the wicked, that he should not return from his wicked way, by promising him life:

23 Therefore ye shall see no more vanity, nor divine divinations: for I will deliver my people out of your hand: and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

14 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

2 And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying,

3 Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them?

4 Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

5 That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

6 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations.

7 For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the Lord will answer him by myself:

8 And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord.

9 And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel.

10 And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him;

11 That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord God.

12 The word of the Lord came again to me, saying,

13 Son of man, when the land sinneth against me by trespassing grievously, then will I stretch out mine hand upon it, and will break the staff of the bread thereof, and will send famine upon it, and will cut off man and beast from it:

14 Though these three men, Noah, Daniel, and Job, were in it, they should deliver but their own souls by their righteousness, saith the Lord God.

15 If I cause noisome beasts to pass through the land, and they spoil it, so that it be desolate, that no man may pass through because of the beasts:

16 Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters; they only shall be delivered, but the land shall be desolate.

17 Or if I bring a sword upon that land, and say, Sword, go through the land; so that I cut off man and beast from it:

18 Though these three men were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither sons nor daughters, but they only shall be delivered themselves.

19 Or if I send a pestilence into that land, and pour out my fury upon it in blood, to cut off from it man and beast:

20 Though Noah, Daniel, and Job were in it, as I live, saith the Lord God, they shall deliver neither son nor daughter; they shall but deliver their own souls by their righteousness.

21 For thus saith the Lord God; How much more when I send my four sore judgments upon Jerusalem, the sword, and the famine, and the noisome beast, and the pestilence, to cut off from it man and beast?

22 Yet, behold, therein shall be left a remnant that shall be brought forth, both sons and daughters: behold, they shall come forth unto you, and ye shall see their way and their doings: and ye shall be comforted concerning the evil that I have brought upon Jerusalem, even concerning all that I have brought upon it.

23 And they shall comfort you, when ye see their ways and their doings: and ye shall know that I have not done without cause all that I have done in it, saith the Lord God.

13 Entonces vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: 2 “Oh hijo de hombre, profetiza contra los profetas de Israel que profetizan. Di a los que solo profetizan lo que hay en sus propios corazones: ‘Escuchen la palabra del SEÑOR. 3 Así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios: ¡Ay de los profetas insensatos que andan tras su propio espíritu, y que nada han visto! 4 Oh Israel, como zorras entre las ruinas han sido tus profetas. 5 Ustedes no han subido a las brechas ni han levantado un muro alrededor de la casa de Israel, de modo que pueda prevalecer en la batalla en el día del SEÑOR’. 6 Ellos ven vanidad y adivinación mentirosa. Dicen: ‘Así dice el SEÑOR’, pero el SEÑOR no los ha enviado. ¡Con todo, esperan que él confirme las palabras de ellos! 7 ¿Acaso no es vana la visión que han visto, y no es mentira la adivinación que han pronunciado? Porque dicen: ‘El SEÑOR dice’, sin que yo haya hablado. 8 Por tanto, así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios, porque han hablado vanidad y han visto mentira; por eso, he aquí yo estoy contra ustedes, dice el SEÑOR Dios. 9 Mi mano estará contra los profetas que ven vanidad y adivinan mentira. Ellos no estarán en el consejo de mi pueblo. No serán inscritos en el registro de la casa de Israel ni volverán al suelo de Israel. Y sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR Dios.

10 “Por tanto, porque han extraviado a mi pueblo diciendo: ‘¡Paz!’, cuando no hay paz, y porque mientras él edifica el muro, ellos[a] lo recubren con cal, 11 di a los que lo recubren con cal, que caerá. Vendrá una lluvia torrencial, caerán piedras de granizo y se desencadenará un viento huracanado. 12 Y he aquí que el muro caerá. ¿Acaso no les dirán: ‘¿Dónde está, pues, la cal con que lo recubrieron?’. 13 Por tanto, así dice el SEÑOR Dios[b], a causa de mi ira haré que se desate un viento huracanado. Por mi furor habrá lluvia torrencial, y piedras de granizo con furia, para destruir. 14 Así destruiré el muro que ustedes han recubierto con cal; lo echaré a tierra, y su cimiento quedará al descubierto. Y cuando caiga, ustedes serán exterminados en medio de la ciudad. Y sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR. 15 Así desahogaré mi ira en el muro y en los que lo recubrieron con cal. Y les diré: ‘Ya no existe el muro ni aquellos que lo recubrieron, 16 los profetas de Israel que profetizan a Jerusalén y ven visiones de paz, cuando no hay paz’, dice el SEÑOR Dios[c].

Contra las profetisas falsas

17 “Y tú, oh hijo de hombre, pon tu rostro contra las hijas de tu pueblo que profetizan lo que hay en sus propios corazones. Profetiza contra ellas, 18 y diles que así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios[d]: ‘¡Ay de aquellas que cosen cintas sobre las muñecas de las manos[e], y que para cazar las almas hacen velos de todo tamaño para las cabezas! ¿Habrán de cazar las almas de mi pueblo y preservarán su propia vida? 19 Ustedes me han profanado entre mi pueblo por puñados de cebada y por pedazos de pan, dando muerte a las personas que no debían morir y dando vida a las personas que no debían vivir, mediante el mentir a mi pueblo que escucha la mentira’.

20 “Por tanto, así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios[f]: ‘He aquí, yo estoy contra sus cintas con que cazan las almas como aves. Las arrancaré de sus brazos y dejaré ir libres como aves las almas que cazan. 21 Asimismo, romperé sus velos y libraré a mi pueblo de su mano. No estarán más al alcance de sus manos cual presa de caza. Y sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR. 22 Por cuanto en vano han causado dolor al corazón del justo, al cual yo no causé dolor, y han fortalecido las manos del pecador para no apartarlo de su mal camino a fin de librar su vida. 23 Por tanto, ya no verán más visiones vanas, ni volverán a proferir adivinación; yo libraré a mi pueblo de sus manos. Y sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR’”.

Contra los dirigentes de Israel

14 Algunos hombres de los ancianos de Israel vinieron a mí y se sentaron delante de mí. 2 Entonces vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: 3 “Oh hijo de hombre, estos hombres han erigido sus ídolos en sus corazones y han puesto delante de sus rostros aquello que los hace caer en la iniquidad. ¿Habré yo de ser consultado por ellos? 4 Por tanto, háblales y diles que así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios[g]: ‘A cualquier hombre de la casa de Israel que haya erigido sus ídolos en su corazón, que haya colocado delante de su rostro aquello que lo hace caer en la iniquidad, y que luego acuda al profeta, yo el SEÑOR me dignaré responderle como merece la multitud de sus ídolos, 5 a fin de prender a la casa de Israel en su propio corazón. Porque todos ellos se han apartado de mí por causa de sus ídolos’.

6 “Por tanto, di a la casa de Israel que así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios[h]: ‘Arrepiéntanse y vuelvan de sus ídolos; aparten su rostro de todas sus abominaciones. 7 Porque cualquiera de la casa de Israel, o de los extranjeros que residen en Israel, que se haya apartado de en pos de mí, que haya erigido sus ídolos en su corazón, que haya colocado delante de su rostro aquello que lo hace caer en la iniquidad, y que luego acuda al profeta para consultarle acerca de mí, yo, el SEÑOR, le responderé por mí mismo. 8 Fijaré mi rostro contra aquel hombre, lo convertiré en señal y refrán, y lo eliminaré de entre mi pueblo. Y sabrán que yo soy el SEÑOR.

9 “‘En cuanto al profeta que sea inducido y hable algo, yo, el SEÑOR, habré inducido a tal profeta. Extenderé mi mano sobre él y lo eliminaré de en medio de mi pueblo Israel. 10 Ellos cargarán con su iniquidad: Como la iniquidad del que consulta, así será la iniquidad del profeta; 11 para que los de la casa de Israel no se desvíen más de en pos de mí ni se contaminen más con todas sus transgresiones. Así ellos serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios’ ”, dice el SEÑOR Dios[i].

Contra las falsas esperanzas

12 Entonces vino a mí la palabra del SEÑOR, diciendo: 13 “Oh hijo de hombre, si una tierra peca contra mí cometiendo grave infidelidad, y yo extiendo sobre ella mi mano y quebranto su sustento de pan, y le envío hambre, y extermino en ella a hombres y animales; 14 si en medio de ella estuvieran estos tres hombres: Noé[j], Daniel[k] y Job[l], por su justicia ellos librarán solo su propia vida, dice el SEÑOR Dios[m]. 15 Si yo hago pasar fieras dañinas por la tierra, y estas la privan de sus habitantes, y ella queda desolada, de modo que no haya quien pase por ella a causa de las fieras; 16 si estos tres hombres estuvieran en medio de ella, ¡vivo yo, que ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas librarían!, dice el SEÑOR Dios[n]. Ellos solos se librarían, pero la tierra sería una desolación. 17 Y si les traigo espada sobre la tierra y le digo: ‘¡Espada, pasa por la tierra!’, y extermino en ella a hombres y animales; 18 aunque estos tres hombres estuvieran en medio de ella, ¡vivo yo, que no librarían ni a sus hijos ni a sus hijas!, dice el SEÑOR Dios[o]. Ellos solos se librarían. 19 Y si envío peste sobre la tierra, y sobre ella derramo mi ira con sangre, para exterminar en ella a hombres y animales, 20 aun si Noé, Daniel y Job estuvieran en medio de ella, ¡vivo yo, que no librarían ni un solo hijo ni una sola hija!, dice el SEÑOR Dios[p]. Ellos, por su justicia, librarían solo sus propias vidas”.

21 Porque así ha dicho el SEÑOR Dios[q]: “¡Con mayor razón, si yo envío mis cuatro juicios terribles —espada, hambre, fieras dañinas y peste— contra Jerusalén, para exterminar en ella a hombres y animales! 22 Sin embargo, he aquí todavía quedarán en ella sobrevivientes, hombres y mujeres, que serán sacados fuera. He aquí que ellos saldrán a ustedes, y verán su conducta y sus hechos. Y serán consolados del mal que habré traído sobre Jerusalén, de todas las cosas que habré traído sobre ella. 23 Ellos los consolarán cuando vean su conducta y sus hechos, y conocerán que no es sin causa todo lo que habré hecho en ella”, dice el SEÑOR Dios[r].
