You lust and do not have. You murder and covet and cannot obtain. You fight and war. Yet you do not have because you do not ask. You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your pleasures.

We should rest in this peace: The world does not deliver lasting serenity through worldly materials, people, or riches. We “fight and war” to defend our worldly pleasures and interests, but seeking peace solely through these selfish and destructive means will lead to despair and damnation. Jesus in His everlasting wisdom doesn’t deny we should enjoy our time on Earth, but that using worldly means under serves our ability to find true peace
